Grab a shovel

Yesterday we did our first big Jerusalem Center service project. We got together with a bunch of kids from the neighborhood and did a community clean-up. We spent 5 hours picking up garbage along the streets next to the center. It made such a big difference! I can't believe how much garbage and grossness there was along the streets. In my little section, there was me, and 3 other girls along with 2 or 3 six-year olds (Joseph, George, & Julia...but I'm not really sure if that's their real names or not...they kept telling us different things) trying to clear out an area that was seriously at least a foot and a half high and full of trash and debris, and re-building the stone walls that had been torn down. Five hours later, it looked amazing. You could actually see the difference between the sidewalk and the street. Afterward we had a picnic and a water fight out on the lawn with the kids that helped us. It was so great to be able to work with the kids and really make a difference. The kids were so cute and so eager to help us. And it is SO much nicer to walk down to the Old City now!
